Deck protection suggestions

I'm having my deck replaced next month, and going with Trex this time. The Cedar lasted 13 years but the environment finally won. When I cook with my Egg or Weber I usually just hose down the deck under the grilles in case a stray ember escapes. As soon as it hits the wet it is extinguished. If it leaves a black mark I don't care. As spendy as this Trex stuff is I think I might consider a different approach. Anyone have any experience with protective mats or other solutions?

I don’t have any experience, only a thought. I would want to keep the height of it pretty low for toe stubbing purposes.
