New fire ring height - pswoo2 user

Just installed the new BGE firebox and ring today. I noticed the ole plate setter slots are gone and the new rings about a half inch shorter than the old one. With the PSWOO2 in my cooking grates down into the egg about a half inch. Anyone else noticed this and does it seem to work fine? I think the only thing it would affect for me is a half inch less of space to insert stuff onto the main grate when I’ve got the D grate on. On the flip side I can put in half inch taller meats!

yes, the large fire ring is on its second modification over the years, removal of the conveggtor notches. Instead of filling them in and keeping the height at the top of the fire ring, EGG trimmed the fire ring to match the conveggtor cutouts depth. The shorter fire ring drops everything a bit closer to the fire.

Note, only the large and xl fire rings were trimmed to notch height.

Do you guys make some feet or recommend something to fill the new “gap” to bring it back up to the felt?

only solution would be to send it back to us and we can weld feet on the Woo's lower ring to raise it up. email me if you want to pursue this fix.

I have a PSWoo that's a couple of years old with a warranty fire ring about 2 years old cooking grid is about a half inch below the felt line and it works great.

TBH, I think I prefer having the 1/2 inch ledge as a curb to keep an errant flip of meat from rolling off the edge.

I just went out and looked at a 22 inch kettle and the grid is about 1 1/2 inches  below the lip. The grid on my weber summit kamado is just under an inch below the lip.   I guess it's preference but I don't see any downside having the grid 1/2 inch below the felt line.

A couple of pics for comparison.
