the ceramic absorbs moisture when its not heated regularly. mine pours moisture thru the exterior after a winter of non use. this is what happens first fire up every spring. the next heavy rain washes that crud off.

    that is a great pic!  yummy! : - )

I've seen that crud on my Egg before, but this latest issue is where it's water accumulating on the inside of the base.  There's so much water it seems that it has to be more than what was absorbed by the ceramic before the cook, rather it is water coming in during the cook somehow

Never heard of that. Only time I’ve ever had water in the base is when my dome had an underbite, and I hadn’t used it in awhile during storm season. If it’s covered, you shouldn’t be having that problem. Maybe contact the warranty department with BGE to see if they have heard of anything like that. Also, are you using a rain cap when it’s stored, or the Daisy wheel?  I doubt it’ll even make a difference, but I use some gasket material under where the rain cap sits, so it stays airtight when it’s not in use. And have also fixed the underbite.  And mine stays out in the weather with no issues.

ive had water half way up the vent happen during a low and slow with no problems during the cook. if the ceramic is wet  before startup the moisture needs to burn out before it burns clean and its able to hold higher temps

have you tried a long 350F cook with no food?

I left my ceramic cap off once during a rainstorm and it made a mess.  I just scraped the muddy ash out of the bottom, lit some coal and let it slowly cook out.  I forget how long it took. maybe half a day or so.

I would still do a long, 6 to 8 hour, med temp cook to dry it out completely.

What size egg? When you cook low and slow do you have a drip pan? On my large I use a 16 inch drip pan on the platesetter for low temp cooks.

You mentioned a crack. Can you post a pic? I had a crack in my base for 8 years and only in year 8 did it expand where I had to warranty the base.

I understand the issue... this is how I found out my LG was cracked.  I was cooking with it and wondered where all this water was coming from under it.  Leaking out a crack.

Just Vote- What if you could choose "none of the above" on an election ballot? Millions of Americans do just that, in effect, by not voting.  The result in 2016: "Nobody" won more counties, more states, and more electoral votes than either candidate for president.
