How do I set up two zone grilling on LBGE?

Doesn’t seem to be enough room for it to make a real difference? But obviously I could be wrong.

    Your assessment is how most of us with the LBGE feel.  You can get a divider plate (I don't recall the manufacturer) and that will enable the two zone deal but as you note the available cooking real estate is small.  Just my take.
    Hopefully others will be along.

    Instead of trying to bank the charcoal, I set up zones above the fire.  I use Ceramic Grill Store's adjustable rig with the raised sliding grate and half stone option.  Allows second zone to be indirect or raised direct.  

    Grate at fire ring with a raised half grate (or smaller diameter grate)  to move a little up from direct heat would also be an option.  This is direct heat for both 'zones' just a little less intense heat on the upper grate.
  • Thanks guys. I wonder then if reverse sear is he way to go since traditional sear heat will be too hot for even a raised grate.

    Reverse sear is definitely a great way to cook anything you want to achieve a crust.  But you can play around with options and see what works for you.

    I use a 22 inch kettle for my hot zone, or a gas grill if I'm lazy.

    If it's reverse sear I'll do it all on the BGE. I have a drop rack that works great for the sear.
