Getting egg up to temp

Have any of you all without those things like a flame boss used a leaf blower to get it up to temp?
I will occasionally if I need to get it going. Also it helps with the ventilation.

My leaf blower would make an awful mess.  But, my ex-wife's hairdryer worked well!

I didn't get that or the egg in the divorce.

I used a battery powered leaf blower on the lowest speed to  rocket the egg to temp. It doesn't take much air to get it going.

Blower was about a foot away from the opening.

Just to get it up to temp?  Um, no, negative, grasshopper!!  I only found a slight increase in temp time when loaded with lots of small chunks of lump.  Reduction in airflow?  The Kick Ash Basket took care of that issue.
The problem with a problem is that you don't know it's a problem until it's a problem, and that is a big problem.

I use my battery powered blower all the time.
Very easy and saves several minutes getting the Egg up to temp.

You need to get yourself a Harbor Freight weed torch.

  • Never tried it, I usually use 2 fire starter tumbleweeds on opposite sides of the fire pit. Takes 30 mins to get my medium to 275-300*. That’s with vents set were it stabilizes at that temp. I don’t open them all the way since it takes as long to get temp back down. I’m sure there are better ways

Leaf blower would make a mess. I just use a butane torch, light it up good right in the middle, then close, and in about 30 min I'm at 275F to 300F.

I once tried (for fun) to use a battery powered leaf blower to help move things along.   It was fun but can’t quantify what I gained.

As stated above, I usually use 2 tumbleweeds on opposite sides of the grill.  Never had an issue that way, may take ~30mins on the Large but I’m ok with that, gives me time for beverages.

I got an EGGniter today, and I just tried it out for funsies. It has a “Hot” pull back on the button mode to light the charcoal and a “Fan” push forward on the button mode to stoke the fire once it’s lit. Wowza does it work! I’ve only used the little lighter cubes previously, and this gets things going much much quicker. Bonus, I can light multiple spots for a spread out fire for grilling burgers etc without having my Scrooge moment of not wanting to use too many of the little lighter cubes.

Why not just open both vents all the way? That always seems to get it up there quick.

I just use the BGE starter cubes and let it come up to temp while I finish prepping my food items.

Damn, I’d use that for weeds in the driveway while my tumbleweeds are burning
