This was posted to YouTube about a week ago. It's 30 minutes long, but I thought it was worth watching and a cool "behind the scenes" look at Goldee's BBQ. They all look so young....or I'm getting old? Nah, they're young!

Thanks for the above on Number 1 from Texas Monthly (a subscriber). Great video where they tease the outcome and rightfully hold back the holy grail. Cambro and foil for the hold and win.
Last DEC I made my latest every 30 month road trip brisket bender to CT (Central Texas) anchored out of Austin and hit Texas Monthly's # 2 Intersteller, #4 Burnt Bean, #5 Leroy and Lewis, #7 Franklin's, along with Valentina's (best breakfast going with the Real Deal Holyfield) and Louie Mueller's also in the ranking. Only sampled lean and moist brisket (except Valentina's). All were great and the differences are clearly in the beholder. The sole objective was brisket for me, thus the value of any other offerings were not considered.
In the June '19 trip my rankings, #1 Franklins; 3 Valentinas; 4 Louie Mueller; 5 Truth; 6 Mickelwait; 7 Snow's; 8 Salt Lick; 9 Smittys; 10+ (by design) City Meat Market. If you find/cook what you enjoy then you have nailed it. FWIW-
Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. -

I have never had Goldees. Good to see new blood at the top but I gotta say it's getting to the point where they all feel like they are ripoffs of each other. They all worked for Franklin. Very few people doing anything different. Everyone uses the old lunch trays, same sides, same "sold out" signs in butcher paper. Same hole in the wall aesthetic.Don't get me wrong I know I'm blessed to be in Texas for all our BBQ but just wish someone would do it a little different. Ive thought about it but the upfront costs to do it right are prohibitive currently. I guess that's why it all feels the same to me. You even heard their pitmaster say "when they get a good cook you either offer them ownership or they walk" problem is they go and do the same thing

I kinda agree. I'm bored with that style BBQ. I'm far more interested these days in open fire grilling. Frances Mallman type stuff.South of Nashville - BGE XL - Alfresco 42" ALXE - Alfresco Versa Burner - Sunbeam Microwave

On a marginally related note I have in their queue since late June a LoneStar Santa Maria Grill linked here https://lonestargrillz.com/ 48x30 with a few options as this is the last of the Q rabbit hole toys I will acquire. Delivery expected in around another month.
I have watched a fair amount of Mallman's videos and do have his book "Seven Fires."
How this all evolved over decades-from charcoal briquettes (Weber Kettle(s)), to the BGE and lump to an off-set stick burner and now the live fire deal.
No comment on how I got here but longevity and pursuit of new frontiers played heavily is this experience. FWIW-Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.
