Kansas City bbq recommendations

Looking for recommendations for a great bbq spot in KC during an upcoming trip. Flying into KC and driving to Fayetteville Arkansas. Any spots in between would be awesome too. Thanks!

  • Slaps BBQ was great.  Q39 and Joe's KC are good.  Skip Arthur Bryant's unless you just want to say you've been there.

Gates will not disappoint, the Main St. location is my favorite of theirs.
Wrights BBQ in Johnson, AR (suburb of Fayetteville) serves some of the best I've ever had.  Highly recommend them if your schedule allows.  Get there early as they usually sell out of many offerings.

Harp BBQ in KC is Craft Central Texas style and been voted top 10 in the country already and lives up to the hype. It sells out almost immediately so make sure your in line at least 30 min prior to opening.

As noted above > Wrights bbq in arkansas is also some of the best bbq you will find anywhere in the country.

Those two are on my short list of best joints I've ever eaten at. You'd be hard pressed to find a better que' joint anywhere in the country. Possibly just as good, but not better.

  • East of KC, I often stop at Plowboys in Blue Springs. Small, unpretentious and really good Q.
Cincinnati, Ohio. Large BGE since 2011. Still learning.
  • Wow- Plowboys is great, one of my favorites.  Stop there any time I am passing through.
2 then 1 Large, 2 then 1 Medium, and 1 Small !! Egging since 2013. God is good!

Unfortunately, Plowboys announced they are closing the restaurants to focus on the rubs and retirement.

Harp's is great, but is a popup - so watch their site on dates/times

Son in Law works at Burn Theory Fire Kitchen, but here's a recent KC Start article as voted on by locals that you might find handy!

Gates was horrible for us a few years ago.  End of the night and they served the worst ribs and pulled pork I have ever had.

    Northern Colorado Egghead since 2012.
