Wings and Ribs

Wings got a little away from me while I was taking a phone call but still great. Ribs on now.

Everything looks fantastic! Any cooking differences so far with your new cast iron smoker compared to the BGE?

So far I like it. The custom Woo Ring from Ceramic Grill Store has really helped. The Goldens seems to burn and spread more evenly and not race towards the back of the cooker as much. The lower vent setting has much more latitude. Instead of holding low and slow temp with a dime size sliver opening this will have 1” - 1 1/2” open vent and can make smaller adjustments easier. The outside definitely gets hotter than my Eggs and it probably burns a little more lump. But not enough to ever worry about. If you are someone who likes/needs to completely pull your cooker apart and clean it after every 2-3 cooks, this is not the grill for you. The taller, one piece, cast iron fire bowl is super heavy and I just use a ash tool to pull ash from the lower vent instead of pulling it out to clean ash. Vent opening is larger than my Eggs and easier to clean this way. But the actual cooking is about the same. It’s just a very heavy Kamado grill. Maybe a little more radiant heat kicked back by the dome onto the food. But it’s tough to compare some things until I replace temp gauge that’s reading low. I will say I love the sturdy stand and thick high quality stainless side shelves. Working on adding casters so I can move it around. Goldens’ swears this cart is not a factory cart and made by a 3rd party. But it’s exactly the same materials, size and design as their carts. Except it did not come with wheels/casters. I think it was just an early design option as I remember it being originally being available with no wheels. But a rep from Goldens told me today it was never an option. It’s taken a few licks before I bought it. I would rate it’s condition as 7 out of 10. It was kept in a small side yard pilled on with all kinds of stuff. I still have a few mods I would like to do but I’m very happy with my purchase so far. Thanks for following what turned into a ramble.

Thanks for the explanation! I'm always curious on how other smokers work. I'm glad to hear that you're happy with it!

I’m the same way. Always wanting to cook on something different and learn more.
@cookingdude555 has me on the ropes over a Gozney Dome multi fuel oven right now. I really need to go back to work. I’m still doing freelance photography but nothing structured. Gives me to much free time searching Craigslist.lol

Do it. Seriously tho, ribs and wings look awesome. That cooker seems to be working out really well.
