re: BGE Chiminea

FWIW
Response to my inquiry about BGE Chiminea from Bruce @ HQ:

"It is true that we have a few chiminea prototypes, but that is as far as it goes. And, please know that just because we have prototype samples DOES NOT MEAN that this will ever be a product that actually goes to market.

I hope this doesn't sound too strong, but I know how rumor goes, and I just want to be very clear with where we stand on this."

Seems to me they're missing an opportunity to share pix/descriptions of their prototypes and get some free opinions/feedback to help with their decision making process.
On the other hand, I guess that would be just as likely to complicate their process. :)

The only reason people seek them out now is for “The Hunt”.
They went extinct because very few people purchased them. Same thing will happen again if they start selling them. Only way they will make any money is if they make a limited run, charge a ridiculous price and hope for a feeding frenzy from Eggheads with money to blow.

Ya, I don't understand the appeal of a BGE chiminea. Then again, I did seek out a green pizza oven to match my two eggs. So I guess there is a market for it out there.

I agree. It needs to be more than just a basic ceramic chimney if they bring it back to the market. It needs to double as something else. Pizza oven, grill, etc if they want to have any chance of it sticking around.

  • They are not great at heat (and not 360 like a pit) but work well in a corner or focus spot. Keeping thinking I would like one near the egg to throw some pinion in for a nice look and mosquito deterrent.

We plan to have the Chimnea in Walmart stores around thanksgiving, just in time for Christmas shoppers.  We will start with Red and Green. . . Christmas and all. . .

I hope this doesn't sound too strong, but I know how rumor goes, and I just want to be very clear with where we stand on this."

    SWEET! In stores soon!

I think the last time BGE rolled out a major new product was back in the 1900's.

It would do them good to come out with something new!

They probably just looked at the market and realized they couldn’t compete, because nobody in their right mind would pay twice what other brand chimineas cost just because it was painted green.

    Nope, that ain’t it.

hmmmm...I wonder if the IRS will consider them proper as an IRA investment? Then if so then why not buy 4, 6, 12, 18???
  • Compared to the rest of the clay chiminea world the egg ones are small but have a screen front door, a lid for the top and the face is vertical. Other chiminea openings, unless covered, take on more rain via the lower lip vs upper lip angle. The removable chimney to cook on a grate was not a bad idea either.  But yes the pricing will be high and there are tons of other players in the space now.

It’s definitely a unicorn product, and yes there are tons of players in the space. Cost will determine if it’s a marketable product in the future!

And one should safely store them beside their mint Beanie Babies horde.

Haha. I actually will buy zero of them. I don’t get the chimnea thing, but I understand others do.
