My reward...

Morning All:

My reward for the last two days of manual labor...the much better half decided we needed to "upgrade" the front of the house...we've had the two large Egg bases being used as planters for a while but she wanted something nicer...here is the "before" picture...

Saturday we did the first phase & ended up with this...

Then today we added another section of rock...

And Pearl the Pig has her own "pen"...

The REWARD was some smoked wings...first they were brined for 2+ hours, then on to the Egg indirect at about 200 with some Cherry for smoke...they cruised for almost 2 hours with the dome temp getting up to 250...ready to come off...

And a closeup...

The wings were some of the best I've done, very juicy & tasty...almost worth all of the manual labor!

Have a GREAT day!

  • Nice work, Jay and Kathy! The fenced pig section is gonna need some explanation.
    Happily egging on my original large BGE since 1996... now the owner of 5 eggs. Call me crazy, everyone else does!

    Morning Faith:

    @Florida Grillin Girl

    The pig is a concrete pig that my mother gave us probably close to 10 years ago...it was black & white (but pretty ugly) at that time...there were also two other concrete pigs (each a little smaller than the big one) & we gave each of those to our sons (don't know what they have done with theirs)...the pig has been sitting in our garage since then & after we made the cracked Egg-base sections into planters Kathy decided to "clean up" the pig (and name it Pearl) by giving it a nice new coat of paint...well when we decided to do the "landscaping" we thought Pearl should have her own pen...so that is the story of Pearl the Pig & I'm sticking to it!

    Have a GREAT day!

    Dang Jay, I know chicken wings are pricey now, but would have held out for a good prime ribeye as the reward. All looks great.

    I know you abilities on the egg's and I bet you could even get that pig tender, if given the chance.

    Morning Tom:

    @CGS

    The wings were an excellent reward (plus an easy cook for being so tired)...That pig is made of concrete & weighs a ton (I can barely pick it up) so even putting mine & your cooking abilities together I don't think it would ever get tender (unless we take a sledgehammer to it  =)  :open_mouth:

    Have a GREAT day!
