egg dome slipping out of the band.

I see they changed and added brackets to the handle that keeps the Dome from slipping out of the bands. Is the handle available separately from the the upper band kit? I'm super careful opening and closing my egg for fear of the dome falling out backwards.

is it flopping around in there? tighten your band bolts until they bend and I wouldn't worry about it.

  • The bands are tight, but as it heats up the bands slip down on top of the lower bands, the new handle hooks over the dome ring

I can't answer your other question but your band bolts are too loose. I would say those tabs are a fail stop, not designed to hold your dome. Your dome should never move around in the band hot or cold.

BTW those tabs are the design created and given to Ed Fisher MANY MANY years ago by an egger named Fred (CharWoody or C~W for short). Fred is now in his 90‘s and still lives in Iowa. He was a railroad mechanic who loved to tinker and solve problems! He abandoned the original BGE forum and BGE itself and became a valuable contributor on the PRIMO forum.

I remember CharWoody and when he developed the "Clip Kit" In fact he sent me one which I installed on my first LBGE when I changed bands from the original bayonet hinge to the lever hinge. Worked like a champ.
You can still get a clip kit for a Primo if so inclined.

WOW, SIr, not sure who you are, but LOL you dated yourself by using terms that many newbies wont even understand! The terms (besides knowing C~W) “bayonet hinge” and “lever hinge”.
    Carry on Sir!

Been putzing along for awhile. Think it was in 99 I first started posting on the old board under a different handle.
I remember you from back then and WMK as the webmaster.
I still have a medium with a bayonet hinge along with a NR5 Kikuya Hibatchi Pot with a bayonet hinge.
I offed that lever hinge years ago. Think mine was one of the first run on that hinge it did not have the yellow "rubber" on the handle. That was introduced after people were yanking the dome out of hinge.

Interesting! My Medium came with that same lever handle hinge and also with no yellow sleeve. Since I dedicated that Medium egg to baking and BAKING ONLY it has never had any meat products baked inside - I mean NOT even any pizza baked in it! Cakes and cookies only! Funny thing? The dome and base are still only light honey colored after all these years!  Me thinks that protein must color the ceramic. Oh well...that's my theory!

I can't answer your other question but your band bolts are too loose. I would say those tabs are a fail stop, not designed to hold your dome. Your dome should never move around in the band hot or cold.
I torq them down to where the tabs on the band are almost touching. the band will stay up against the ring but slowly drops down to the bottom ring. Almost like it is tapered down.

If that is the case you should reach out to your dealer, they may send you a new band assembly under warranty.
