How do you prevent meat from burning when using plate sitter?

I have seen some posts on using tinfoil to prevent your food from burning if it sits above the gaps in the plate sitter but cant remember where you place the tinfoil.

I wrap the plate setter in foil. What ever drips around it is no worry

Do you mean if your food (say a rack of ribs) extends past the plate setter?

When I have that situation, I place the foil under the end of the rack of ribs, sandwiched between the grid and the meat so the meat isn't over the coals. It can be folded up so you can still close the egg.

With ribs, I protect the ends that extend over the gap by putting foil under it. Leave enough foil to wrap around the edge but not the top. Usually needed with L but not XL egg.

I try to keep my meat from the edges. I'll cut the ribs to fit as needed.

The BGE XL Drip Pan fits perfectly into the large BGE. I just cut a hole in one with a 3-inch edge, which shields heat gaps (but still allows airflow) when the platesetter is set on top. Works well and I’ve used the same pan for a year. I’ve got two butts on now with this hack in play.
