Lid rubbing when closing?

I put a new gasket on the top and bottom and thought everything went back on pretty smoothly after applying the new gasket. I took the lid off and after I put it back on with all the nuts in place, it seems like the lid is rubbing the bottom gasket while it drags. Is there a way to adjust the height of the lid now that I have a thicker gasket on there? I don’t have an underbite or overbite and that’s most of the info I can find for alignment problems.

What you describe is the classic example of the planes of your dome and base being out of whack meaning they don’t close properly. Best solution is to close your dome, loosen the bolts, push the dome down, retighten bolts.

No…the bolts which secure both bands.

Have you done the dollar bill test?  If it hits in back, I gotta believe it is loose in front.  Verify the dollar bill is tight all the way around.

If it is, I would leave it.  Unless it hits the back real hard.

The gasket is tight enough to pass the test but I can tell the lid is actually dragging while it’s shutting. Once it’s shut, everything looks lined up fine but it seems like the bottom gasket is going to start tearing off after a short while the way the back of the lid drags while shutting.

So, just loosen the bolts on the hinge mechanism? I didn’t mess with those during the gasket change but maybe the thickness of my new gasket compared to the one that was worn down is affecting the closing of the lid?
