I have never eaten this fruit but am anxious to give it a try after reading the below article. Farmer markets have started up, will be quizzing some vendors this weekend to find out if any will have the fruit available this Fall.
Curious to hear from any forum members that have eaten it.

I have not, but this podcast had an episode about it and it is super-interesting.

I have several 'Indiana banana' (What we call them) trees on my property. The problem I have is the wildlife usually gets them before me. They deteriorate fast from being under-ripe to rotten~ John - https://www.instagram.com/hoosier_egger

They get ripe fast, small window to eat in. Might ask if they know the variety

I have a bunch growing right behind my house. I eat one if I find it in the right condition but its noting I'm crazy over. I've been meaning make some bread or something with them.

Last time we camped last year at a Missouri state park in the southeast we took a guided hike. The park ranger pointed out the pawpaw's. We had never heard of that fruit before. We did a little hunt looking for enough for everyone to try. Initial taste was good, but then not real likable. One of my daughters wanted to keep one, but it eventually got thrown out. This would not be part of our diet other than a quick novelty.
