New bands and hinge on XL, worth it?

I’ve owned my egg for over 10 years now and I’m currently doing some upgrades to it. This far I’ve bought the 2 inch temp gauge for it, a rutland gasket, and I was thinking of getting the new band and hinge since it’s been re-designed. I have yet to install anything and wanted to see if people recommend getting a new band/hinge setup for the XL. From what I keep seeing on peoples posts everyone keeps referencing that the new hinge and band assembly matches what was only on the XL BGEs in the past, so it seems like it’s only really applicable to the large and below. My bands and hinge still work properly but I would like the new design if it really is new for the XL as well.

Thoughts?

If your hinge and band still work well, you are not trying to fix an alignment issue, and you occasionally make sure it is tight (so lid doesn't fall out) then I wouldn't mess with it.  Seems like a headache for no gain.

Don't tell your problems to people.  80% of people don't care and 20% are glad you have them.

You can buy just the handle with the tabs on it too. I agree with Ozzie. If you aren’t fighting an issue stay where you are. If however you are a person fighting alignment hen it’s definitely worth it as the adjustment is much easier and wider ranging.

Thanks, not fighting any alignment issues. Just wanted to see if it was worth it since I may be taking the bands off to put the gasket on.

Like others have said above. No reason to drop $200+ for little to no gain.

Since you mentioned a Rutland I feel like I can add my 2 cents worth…IF you bought one from me then I had already told you it was not necessary to remove the dome, nor bands…but some people think it makes the new application easier…but no more easy nor difficult than working upside down trying to add a peel and stick gasket since the Rutland ONLY goes on the base.

Thanks, I’ve definitely decided not to get the new bands. I’m not actually sure where I got my rutland gasket from. I bought it years ago and never put it on. You don’t think it ages to where it can’t be used, do you?  Also, if you have a good video of how to do the install please post the link.

I had a plumber here to fix a water leak problem and he couldn't help to notice my XL BGE. He said he had and old model KJ XL that the springs were shot and he had to prop up his dome.  Does anyone know if and old KJ XL is adaptable to the BGE XL replacement bands?

Definitely not compatible but he could order new springs direct from KJ. @loco_engr
