New Spring Assist Band with Older Model Large Egg

Hello all.
Need help solving a fitment/gasket problem.
I have an Large Egg bought in !999. Started with old school locking hinge. Then moved to spring assist band. This lasted a long time. It disintegrated a few years back.
Replaced with new style spring assist band(smaller springs).
Problem. Since installing, I  have had problems with air leaks between gaskets. Tried stacking gaskets to make up for different tolerance between lid and base.
Cant keep temps low(200-250) like with older bands. Temp creeps up with top and bottoms vents set at same spacing. Air leaks in top and bottom gaskets.
Has anyone experienced this problem? if so, how did you solve it?
I do not have an underbite or overbite problem with lid meeting base.
Have talked with Egg mothership, but their solutions have had no effect.
Also, does anybody have  the beefier spring assist band they would like to sell or even an old locking hinge.
Thanks for your help. Guitarchef

my 2001 has a huge gap in the back with the new hinge, bought two rutlands off rrp and am going to double it up on the base someday in hopes it levels it out. with the older style spring band i didnt even use a gasket, that older band was replaced with a second older band.

Had gasket with old band as well as no gasket with locking hinge as well. No problems with sealing lid to base.
Huge gap in back in mine as you have in yours . Thanks.
  • This is something I am working through now with a medium egg from the mid 90s. My older generation spring hinges just failed. Replaced with the new hinge last weekend. Had an air gap all along the back like you described during my first cook.

After that cook I loosened all the bolts on the top band and then pushed down on the back of the dome and held it while re-tightening. It seemed to work. I will fire it back up tonight and let you know if I still have a leak.
