Just had this built and I need a cover for the egg.  I haven't been able to find one that fits a free standing egg, does anyone have any recommendations?

I’ll second @HeavyG on the Ravenna covers. Have one on my table and very good quality for the money.

Why do you want to cover the egg?  I find leaving it uncovered with the vents ever so slightly cracked keeps it aired out and ready for immediate use.  The outside might get dusty or polleny, but a quick spritz of simple green and a wipe down has it looking like new.

I can "third" Classic Accessories, but I have used their standard cover on my XL and really love the quality. I have used many different covers over the years, but never the Ravenna line. Currently the XL cover is only $16 on AMZ.

Does water get in when it rains?  I guess I don't necessarily have to cover it but I just assumed covering is better than not covering it.

I am not as "seasoned" as several here, but I have had three eggs since 2014 and have never covered any.

My only issue has been frozen down domes.  But, putting a lighter cube in the vent hole opens them right up.

I would never remember to go back out, after the thing cools down, to put the cover on.  They take a long time to cool off!  Maybe if I had an area like you have, I would still be out there when it cools off.

Your point about a long cool down is valid.

When looking at the covers I see that they that they all are big enough to cover the egg and the nest it sits on. I haven’t found one that is just big enough to cover a free standing egg without too much left over fabric.

I am in the “do not cover” camp. When I got my 1st egg 10 or so years ago I bought a cover and used it a few times. To me they are more hassle than they are worth and the eggs do fine without them.

I have a smokeware cap so water intrusion with a slight opening is a non-issue.  If I had the OEM items, I would use the ceramic cap and just slightly crack the lower vent.  Just remember to remove the ceramic cap before you open it, or it may fall off and break.

The only item that will be damaged by the weather is the wood handle.  They are easy to refinish or simply replace.  Cheaper than getting a new cover every few years.  Plus, I like to see my eggs.  I find covers unsightly.
