Moving a Lrg BGE with the new bands

with the original band set, there was a built in handle to pull (first rule) but after changing to the new ban set that is
no longer available.  I'm thinking the only option is to tie down the handle and pull with that.
I don't have enough bungie cords for that.  :(
How would you tie down the handle?
TIA

    How far is the move?

    Any/many steps involved? up? down?

moving done by pros or just a friendly force?

i assume you are not talking about the guts...as you SHOULD simply remove the fire ring and fire box to carry them separately.  Sudden bumps from potholes can bust a base EASILY!

AS for just securing the dome and base SHELLS then you have any issue just using duct tape?  though  it MAY leave some residue which is easily cleaned off...BUT if you feel your glaze isn't secure then that MIGHT cause an issue...but after all if you use duct tape for a short distance using sober friends then it's not like you are wrapping Jimmy Hoffa for transportation in "Louie's" trunk! Just a strip or two!

    Zip ties come to mind.

Is this a one time move?

I'm currently in a rental duplex and the lrg is in the basement and the move would up a gravel driveway to have it just outside my front door. The stairs to the basement are uncommonly steep and I don't want to have to negotiate them to check on cooks.  HTH

I would remove the dome and carry the pieces separately.

Excuse me...but your initial queftion totally confused me!

So. instead of moving to a new residence...all you mean is about moving your egg from a basement, up a gravel path to get o your front door...? Right?

My suggestion is to ask whoever for whatever reason asked you"
to move out there for some suggested sources of helpful. local help!

if young guys give them. $10-$20, if handymen then expect to pay more, BUT offer to have them back for burgers, ribs or whatever!

After looking at my current setup, Calikings suggestion of zip ties is prob the best option as the mates bracket and the handle bracket aren't all that far apart.  TY

For sure on the "pull never push" method.  With the old style bands using the hinge as a pull handle once gave a close call.  Ever since I've pulled from the nest frame legs.
Going over gravel I'd be concerned pulling from up top.

I would mount it into one of the newer handler stands. They are much more stable and built in handle.
    Thank you,

$240 compared to dumping your Egg is cheap.

I'm an older f*rt than you, but I have learned how to minimize much lifting at all by really dividing the project in as many pieces which I know that I can handle.

BUT unless you really can't do ANY lifting then just hire some dudes to help you! I had already suggested this in an earlier reply and got shot down..BUT, come on man...surely there is SOME help around there, at a reasonable price!

respectfully, you may not be as young as the "young guys" Ron is referring to.

Here's what I would do.  I would invite the biggest, strongest, toughest guys I know over for some "barbeque".  I'd tell them, "don't bring anything, I got it all.  Burgers, Brats, sides, booze, beer, wine, Bring your wives/ girlfriends / boyfriends."

When they show up and ask "Where's the grill?"  Tell them we just need to move it upstairs real quick.

    Works every time.

Hand truck or dolly? Harbor Freight for cheap. I've moved my LG often using the hand truck.
    Fish, Hunt, Cook....anything else?

  • @loco_engr  After we put on our new hinge assembly my husband used the old handle to attach the nest.  We also have to move our LBGE from the garage through gravel to our temp cooking spot.  The 2nd handle has really helped with stability.

i would not pick it up by the band handle, thats just asking for problems. take the dome off, reach in wearing gloves and grab the lower vent with a helper and grunt it up the stairs. the lower vent is sharp so ill repeat....wear gloves.  those lawn carts are pretty cheap and come in handy for lots of things, put the parts on one of those and roll it to its new home. those are less than 80 bucks at harbor freight when on sale and are great for lawn care, moving firewood, stones etc.   i move mine mounted on a four wheeler but thats a bigger project
