Whenever I use my egg or primo in negative temps I have to open my vents a lot. Is this normal for everyone?

Yes. I give the fire more time to spread out and then more time to heat up the cold ceramics.
It is all about the change in temperature.
Unless I am trying to "low and slow" a cook, I just run the thing wide open in the winter and adjust my timing to match.Clinton, Iowa -
I had to do the same last night. I didn't measure it, but it seems like grate temp and some temp get much further apart.

I egg in these temps and much colder. To be honest, never noticed a big difference for startup or rolling based on ambient temps.

Yesterday was my first time letting in a lot more air. It was really cold but maybe it needs to be cleaned out at the bottom. We’ll see on my next cold low and slow

I don't really change vent settings based on ambient temp. 9 times out of 10, an egg not getting up to temp is lump configuration or, like you said, airflow restriction.Large, Medium, MiniMax, 36" Blackstone

Only real Eggers do it in the snow
And that, friends, is sufficient snow to bring the entire UK infrastructure to a halt. Am I right @Stormbringer and @Eoin ?
Other girls may try to take me away
But you know, it's by your side I will stay -
