Best temp controller?

So it looks like my Stoker II may have finally but the dust, I'm looking for recommendations for a replacement. Definitely need wifi connection and the ability to use multiple probes. All recommendations are appreciated.

  • Smobot. Posted the same on a similar thread last week. Bought it on the recommendation of a bunch of people here. Love it.
  • Anybody have a SmartFire 5.0?

I stopped using a daisy wheel and went to the smokeware cap last year so the smobot would mean being a new daisy wheel again.

I think with them closing up and no longer making probes I'm going to get something new.

I ride Harley Davidsons.  "Best controller" threads are the equivalent of "Best Motor Oil" or "best slip-on muffler" threads on those forums.  Similar to "best lump" threads here.  Be prepared for every brand and opinion to be mentioned, including fixing your current controller by getting your Electrical Engineering degree first.

Every brand does something well.  Every brand has a drawback.

Without knowing how often you cook, what you cook, how / where you want to use it (will you always be in your house while using it or do you need to control it from anywhere in the world?) there might not be a clear answer.

Good luck!  I haven't bought one yet because they all do some things well and some things not so well.

  • If I was in the market today, I'd be torn between Smobot and Guru. If my only cooker was an Egg, Smobot looks terrific. Otherwise, the Guru products look great.

Fortunately my Stoker IIs are still going strong.

Have a very Happy New Year!

I've got 2 digi q's that are 15 years old. Replaced the probes once or twice, no frills, no bs.  Set it and forget it.

The DudeThis is a very complicated case, Maude. You know, a lotta ins, lotta outs, lotta what-have-you's. And, uh, lotta strands to keep in my head, man. Lotta strands in old Duder's head. Luckily I'm adhering to a pretty strict, uh, drug regimen to keep my mind, you know, limber.
