I've just installed my new large green egg aged I'm wondering do I need to have legs under my egg?

Most folks advocate for an air gap, whether it be achieved via a table nest or ceramic feet.

Too many fires attributed to BGE's w/o any air gap however you get there.

raise it up on three quarters, mine sits on stainless plate raised that way

not sure what it is sitting on but the heat and resulting expansion may cause it to crack with out air gap

Another reason to have the nest ... if you (or your friends) slam the lid shut ... it absorbs shock ... helps the lid from not cracking!
