rEGGulator Cap

I got an egg and it just had the rain cap. So I picked up the rEGGulator cap for my egg. Does it just sit there or does it attach somehow? And what is the purpose of the small removable rubber piece in the metal that sticks out from the base?

Your Egg should have come with an adjustable cap to let more or less air escape from the Egg.
It pretty self explanatory. I believe the little rubber tab you are asking about is to protect your fingers from the hot cast iron while making adjustments.

That is where you insert the rain cap.

Great help guys thank you. Now how do you keep the cap from moving? Add a gasket? I cannot move the cap without the whole thing moving. And it can fall off when I raise the lid.

If it is that loose you need to put a piece of gasket material around the top of the chimney.

Very happy to be here and thanks for the welcome. I have done a bunch of smoking in the last 10 years. I began with a little Weber Smokey Mtn, then a Traeger Tailgater, followed by a Pit Barrel Cooker, and then a $2000 Fast Eddy's Cookshack PG500 pellet grill. I know have a Weber gasser and a lovely BGE.

With all that gear I'm sure you have plenty to offer here regarding BBQ in general.  Feel free to pass along any insights.  As you are well aware, there are many ways to get great results.

For the record I have definitely forgotten a lot but that's because I have accumulated many, many laps of the sun (old is the brief term).  24K posts means I should get a real life but since I live "every day is Saturday" this is the best I can do.

Let me count as I only have 10 fingers and 10 toes, so maybe I should label each thumb as 20 so 4+4+20+20 and back around again 20+4+4+1 more toe shows I’m an old 77 year old f*rt…
