Metal band gap on the MiniMax

Both my Large Egg, and MiniMax, came assembled. I want to adjust the metal bands around my MiniMax. I see in the assembly videos they use that red spacer. Does anyone know what the width of that piece is, or the recommended gap between the bands? Or any tips or tricks for proper adjustment? Thank you.
