Egg table dimension

In the final process of assembling my table for my large egg. The dimensions i see all over the place are 17” between the bottom shelf and the underside of the top shelf. Then they all show the egg mounted on a block. I am using the table nest that raises the egg 2 inches.
I have a ceramic tile that sits flush. Should the bottom shelf be lowered 2 inches or left at 17? I have the new style hinge if that helps?

I'm trying to build a table for my XL using a table nest and wondered about that as well. The eggs at the various dealers I've visited have been installed in their stock tables using the table nest and nothing under it.

the XL is shorter than the large. our tables are at 17" but we put a notch behind the egg for hinge to pivot down in. We also put a small platform under the large egg but not on the XL
  • The bottom of the table was routed out for the ceramic tile to set in level with the table. The base is now 17 inche from the underside of the top. I found that the new hinge swings down to the table top by almost an inch. Will post pictures when done. All cedar construction with kona stain and 5 layers of spar urethane.
