What’s the biggest Lodge or other brand cast iron skillet with no handle you can fit in a large BGE for smash burgers? I’ve got the rectangle Lodge griddle and a set of Grillgrates but those can be a sonuva b when smashing the burgers and the grease hits the flame.

Large is 18" in diameter so by cutting the handle off a cast iron skillet you could get on BIG skillet in there but it will be heavy! Cast iron is a soft metal and cutting the handle off is easy to do. OTOH Lodge does make a big 16" with 2 semi-circle "ears" instead of a handle...but again that is heavy!

That would be a be a great rig to have especially for a deep dish za.
  • If you go the route of cutting a handle, don’t do it on any surface you care about. The metal fragments and dust will rust and discolour whatever you cut it on. Do it in the grass.

I use a cast iron pie pan - this one, although I paid less for it.

Do you repurpose those, Ron? If so, what do you do with them?

LOL - no- I just save them in case I need some weights with pre-existing holes, but so far not needed!

    This clarifies nothing. 😉

Why would you want “weights with pre-existing holes?”

Sorry..I should have said “long slots” instead of holes.

Being a 77 year old son of a Father who was a product of the Great Depression in the 30’s AND then being an honest to God blacksmith in biz for years…it was just ingrained in me to never pitch some metal as maybe you will find a use later! Call me a hoarder if you want - but that’s just me!

The 17” version is actually 19.5” at its widest (the ears) so the 16” version might be a smidge too wide.  I can’t find a listing for it to confirm.
