Cast iron grate for XL

My wife bought be the Cast iron grate for the XL. It is a half moon. Was she supposed to buy two? Or does the CI grate go on the regular grate? What do you guys recommend I do with the other half?

    Options
    I put the coals right under the cast iron half and cook steaks that way.  On the other hand, I do a hot smoked salmon the opposite way with the coals on the open side.  I like it.
