Just after reading this thread, local g store had legs and thighs for $5.53 for 10 lbs as an expiration sale.  I got two. Looks like they came from the the deli from what they would normally fry.

Ham around here is outrageous.  Pork prices in general have risen a lot and rival beef during beef sales.

How can there be a shortage?  Toilet paper, F150's, and now wings?
Fewer workers processing. But mostly fewer restaurants buying during covid.

Now that it is opening up everywhere, the demand has outstripped production.

Same for cars new and used. Lot of pent-up cash.

Almost aways a boom and inflation following a pandemic or recession.

    Everyone is buying
As well as the rampant inflation, there is also a bird flu pandemic taking out lots and lots of birds.  This is why eggs and chicken has outpaced other products in prices.

Correct now, but bigbeanus wrote that 16 months ago before global inflation really took off. Sure, there is always supply demand price fluctuation, with meat it's usually related to disease, drought or supply chain issues, or if a giant plant goes off line.
