XL Fire Ring

I just upsized from a large to an XL. The fire ring does not have the notches in it for the plate setter. When I put my plate setter on top and then the grate, it doesn’t close. I see there is a different fire ring with the notches. Before I go get that and change it out, will that solve my problem where the plate setter will fit and dome will close?  The fire ring with the notches for the plate setter seems thicker than the fire ring that I have.

An alternative would be to buy the woo ring and deflector plate from ceramic grill store. If you haven’t cooked on your plate setter, you could return it

You must have parts for a pre-2010 green egg

The XL has had several design changes over the years and not all the parts play well with each other. Your local dealer should make it right.

The original Fire Box was also taller compared to the new style. Honestly, there were so many changes made to the XL it’s not easy to keep up with them.
But I do highly recommend dumping the plate setter and going with a Woo from Ceramic Grill Store.

Tom at CG Store can help you out. He is also an XL Egg user from way back…

Call BGE.  I had the same issue when I bought a platesetter years after buying my XL.  It wouldnt fit, and the old platesetters were gone.  BGE gave me a new firering and firebox, and that solved it.  The platesetter is built based on a certain fire ring/box height.

Wait, did you buy it brand new and it didn't fit together??

The new fire ring does not have the notches ... but on mine, everything fits snug, no problem, although I keep my plate setter with the legs up. I haven't actually tried it with legs down and grid on top.

I'm curious though, are you trying this with legs up or down?
