What rotisserie are you using there @jdMyers?South of Columbus, Ohio.

It's a modified high torq motor, welded spikes and a camera flash battery. Brazilian churrasco rotisserie. Look at kanga grill for something close to it. It works very well. And isn't to expensive. This one will hold almost 70 lbs. The kanga maybe 20lbs.

@HeavyG pretty interesting... not too spendy either

not a lot of info on the stand but if it has to cradle the fire pit that would be a issue as not all fire pits are the same.

Sorry I spelled it wrong. It doesn't have to cradle the fire. It just needs to be above it. Add a 2nd pole and it can be 5ft tall. Temp control is based off height. The kanga will hold 20 lbs before the motor boggs down. I've done a small hog.

So the stand. In my case I pound a steel spike in the ground and slide a stainless steel pole over the spike.
I made a stand for the patio. It was an adjustable stand that had leveling feel on the bottom. A steel spike in the stand with a set screw to hold the spike. The stainless steel pole slid over the spike. I failed to put a set screw in the pole to the spike. The weight of the food over the fire was fine until
Until the wind blew and like a wind flag it rotated. The counter balance of meat to the left and legs straight flipped it over and started a grass fire. The grill flipped over when the legs hit it. All my fought.
The stand will need to be stable no matter what direction the meat overhangs.
In the ground. Rock solid. Everything. 6 1/2 years now.
I use it on full log fires as well just up higher.
12v motor lasts 8 to 12 hours on 6 AA batteries. A week on a camera flash battery.

what does the stand look like? you driving a stake in the ground, or counter weight on the back?

3/4 steel stock
Two poles. One to set inside the other. For tall height. I'll post another photo one I get the logs in the fire. The kanka grill for the most part will do you well. Makes it fun. I think the kanka comes with a speed controller and can run off electric. Mines not so fancy.

The spike. 2ft long 3/4 inch. Steel tube with a drilled and threaded hole and set screw so it won't rotate. I use the same spike in my stand when on the patio. Put it over a weber 22 grill no issues. The kanka grill stand failed if the meat swings left or right off center. Here is there set up.

I will get a photo of mine but my steel spike goes in the center and has a similar to a cross.wide base. Direction of meat hanging doesn't mater.Columbus, Ohio

jdMyers said:Those are pretty slick - self rotating skewers!Seem pretty reasonably priced - straight conversion from Brasilian R$ puts them at about $40 each. They run on just 4 AA batteries.
