Big Green Egg Stainless Ash Basket

Has anyone experienced problems with their BGE ash basket. I purchased one and immediately noticed
my egg cooking hotter. Too it out to empty ashes a few uses later and I have a completely cracked
firebox. Anyone else experience this? Or do you have other ideas as to why it happened?
