Removing Rutland gasket

I have an XL EGG on which I've installed the Rutland gasket with Permatex ultra copper.  It's been on for about three years and now when it cools down, the lid sticks to the base and I really need to yank on the lid to open it. The gasket is covered with a bla k sticky substance. Any ideas on how to remove the gasket and the Permatex?

Probably easier to clean the goop off.

In winter, idoesn’t take much surface area to stick down a frozen lid. Probably the same thing here.

If you really want to take it off, they do make a chemical stripper for it, and if it were on car parts, you could soak in gas.

But I would use a razor/scraper myself. Mechanically rather than chemically.

You may have had adhesive from the old gasket left over on the side where you didn't install the new gasket.  Make sure you scrape all that off mechanically when it's cool/ambient.  For good measure you can give the surface a good scrubbing with acetone and a 3M pad (scrubbie), wiping the excess solvent off with a rag frequently (and re-applying new solvent).  The residual acetone will cook off quick.  Don't worry about toxicity with the acetone.

We all know it’s a sin to use Rutland Cement around here. And clearly not approved around the world.  Lol
