OT: carpet cleaner like bissell / hoover

was about to schedule Stanley Steamer, again . . and starting to think maybe I should just buy a carpet cleaner instead ? No crazy wine/blood stains . . just to use on high traffic areas, bedroom carpet, stairs, rugs. Anybody have one to suggest?
This one below has good reviews . . but just not sure if these things are worth a damn?

We have a little Bissell Green Machine for spot cleaning and it's used all the time. I wouldn't be without one.
I believe our big one is a Hoover. I know the heated versions of them are extra $$$. I use all the hot water I put in it before it ever has a chance of cooling down.

The best way to clean carpet is to rip it all up and burn it.South of Nashville - BGE XL - Alfresco 42" ALXE - Alfresco Versa Burner - Sunbeam Microwave

We have the Bissell deep clean deluxe pet model we picked up from Costco a few years back. We had five dogs (down to three now) so a carpet cleaner seemed like a no brained to us. It works well, even after running are Dyson sweeper twice before the Bissell, the amount of dog hair it picks up is mind boggling. Cleaning it after use is a bit of a pain but it beats calling in Stanley Steamer multiple times a year.Nerk Ahia LBGE

Just go rent a rug doctor or spend the extra money and buy a rug doctor. They are like $20 to rent for a day and much stronger than the $200 bissell machines. If you are doing a large area the tanks on the rug doctor are bigger so less trips to empty and refill and its stronger. We have the same one as the poster above and it works well but its residential versus commercial strength.

The previous owner of my previous house laid old carpet and padding out flat somewhere on the 7 acres and leave it. Eventually grass and weeds grew over it. Anytime I did a gardening, fencing, landscaping, or animal project, I found another 10 x14 area of carpet. It was maddening. I might be roto tilling along just fine and wham! Carpets and tillers don't mix. I rented a machine that buried the wire for an underground dog fence. That also hit a carpet patch. There was leftover concrete and cinder blocks buried in random places too.nolaegghead said:
