BGE Dual Probe remote Wireless Thermometer

Checking to see if anyone else has the same issue. My grill temp probe will always read 20 to 50 degrees lower than the grill thermometer kn the BGE. Not sure is this is due to the location of the thermometer with the probe being at the grate and the grill being up higher on the dome. I have the diffuser in place. Thoughts or experiences on this?

A friend of mine asked me the same question yesterday. I told him to calibrate his dome thermometer first and see if that works. Your dome thermometer could be off

Thank you sir. Will try that. Probe seems accurate...at least the last few smokes have turned out amazing using the probe temp.

There's usually a difference between grid temp and dome temp. Tends to even out during longer cooks.
Clip the grid probe to the stem of the dome thermo, and see what temp readings you get. Most folks refer to dome temp when discussing their cooks, etc., so consider calibrating yourself to the dome temp.#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX. -
I replaced my dome thermometer with a Fireboard probe and use that as my prime reference along with a grid probe. The dome probe consistently starts out higher, by 20° to 40°, than the grid probe. The longer the cook, the closer the two get. I prefer using the dome probe for reference rather than the grid probe, because it is always in a fixed position and not affected by anything surrounding it. It's not always easy to place the grid probe in the best position due to what's being cooked and its lead interfering with items being cooked. As noted in an above post, the dome probe seems to be preferred in this forum. Interestingly, the grid probe is preferred in the Pitmasters forum.
