In case you're looking for something to watch besides "predictions/expert analysis" this evening...

My last GF and I always had date night on Wednesdays, a good mid-week break at my place, I'd get to try a new recipe, we'd catch up on the first half of the week, watch some TV and some other things.  She loved watching Emeril on the Food Network, and it was okay with me but I was not impressed with his cooking skills, seemed more of a showman to me.  The last few shows we saw together, he was falling apart; What's-Her-Name (an RN) thought he had a drinking problem.

Today Mashed had an episode on LaGasse, I learned a few things.  Apparently he was a talented chef, and he was on the crux of being fired from FN at the end (I dropped cable in '09 and completely lost track of him).  Done quite a lot of other things in the interim, and Martha Stewart bought out his "empire" for a whopping $45M!  Nice work if you can get it....

Phew, that this was a RIP thread.  Glad it is not.

Bam! I watched Emeril back in my high school days (late 90’s) and it was entertaining and a bit “new” compared to the cooking shows that were on before that. Nowadays there are so many reality like cooking/BBQ shows I’ve lost interest (I also don’t watch much TV).

When we were registering for wedding gifts we actually chose the Emeril All-Clad set with the copper core because it seemed decent for the price and to be honest it was a lot better than the stuff we had before. This was back in 2010 so I believe Martha already owned the rights to that line. We actually still use it today and it has held up really well, I secretly wish I had a better excuse to get a new set but it works fine.

Emeril put on an entertaining show. From what I understand it was canceled due to the high production cost of doing a live show with all the guest. After he left the cooking reality shows took over, from what I understand, they are much cheaper to produce.
Food Network hasn't been the same with him gone.

His early shows were a study in the flop sweats.  Very Albert Brooks.
    Love you bro!

+1 for the good movie reference.

I've been watching Jacques Pepin videos.  The man is a wizard with a knife and always explains in detail what he is doing (and why).  To me, he's like the Bob Ross of cooking.  Easy to find on YouTube and on PBS.
