Maple

Its been a while, almost like I'm a newbie since the last time I post a message... so here we go.

Has anyone or is it wise to use small chunks if maple (tree limbs) instead of using charcoal on the BGE.

Using only wood as fuel in the egg generally isn't a good idea because of the amount of ash it will generate and the fact that it will smolder at lower temperatures, giving you off flavors.  It's fine to supplement your lump for smoke flavor purposes.

BGE is not designed to be a stick burner......too much ash, too many flames on high temps, and no way to maintain low temps.  But definitely add that maple to your charcoal.  Great on pork and fish!
