Thermometer has water in it.

is this normal? It rained, yes, but I can't imagine this is good in the long run, has to cause some corrosion ... its literally inside the glass.

I put it in my oven to dry it out, but I don't want to have to do that every time it rains.

It happens. I opened one up to get it to dry completely. Some people recommend drilling a small drain hole in the side. I just try not to leave the thermometer out in the rain.

It will happen from temperature changes as well not just rain. Drilling a tiny hole does fix both issues.

OK, so drill a hole in the side (which is about 1/4" thick) right at the bottom, not in the back right?

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Thanks, okay read through that. I'm getting the impression this should not have happened given I got my egg brand new only two months ago. The thermometer has never been dropped ... anyhow, maybe I'll drill the hole. There was a lot of water in it ... that wasn't condensation, it was rain physically getting in.

    Maybe a warranty replacement?

Well, I drilled a hole in it, so I guess I can forget about the replacement warranty. Let's see how long this lasts ... I'm guessing I'm in for a new thermometer within a year.

If I have to replace this ... I'm reading lots of issue with water penetration in Tel Tru ... not sure it's really all that good quality given the money over $50 ... I mean I don't mind spending $50 ... but not on junk.

Is there a better quality dome temperature gauge I should get if I have to replace this?

its the most reliable therm ive had, i ordered one thru tel tru yesterday for 25 bucks with free shipping. 2 inch dial, 3.5 inch probe, 200 to 1000f model. been cooking for years without a dome therm but broke down and bought one.

Interesting.. now I need to watch my thermo.

I upgraded from the small one on my BGE to a larger one, the small would get condensation but really so I could see it out the window easier.

    **Take it off after cooks
-I leave mine out uncovered, doubt I'll take it off

    **Drill a hole
    -I'll have to ponder
