Plate setter broke, any other options?
TxTech25
Posts: 19
It broke when I set it into the cooker. It was on the lip and I turned it a touch and snapped into 2 pieces. One is 2/3 of the area, and the other is a 1/3 area piece. I was looking for alternatives, thinking the WOO might be the best option. The ceramic grill store doesn't have the plates to turn it into an indirect cooker. So I am thinking about other options now. Anyone got any good ideas?

How old is it? Might still be under warranty (though I forget what that is - 3 or 5 years I think).
I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Found it, it's 3 years...

I use the Woo and a round stone from the Ceramic Grill Store. It allows for many more set ups and configurations than the Plate Setter. And it is easier to remove/reconfigure mid cook.

The CGS doesnt have the XL (18 inch) stones or half stones. I would be all over it, if they had them.Wreck 'Em!- J in Amarillo, Tx -
Can you put them together? Use a few metal brackets and tapcon screws to hold them together. You'll need a good drill bit to pre-drill the holes for the screws. I know you'll have some heat coming through the remaining seam, but it can't be much, especially with the drip pan sitting on top of it.Napoleon Prestige Pro 665, XL BGE, Lots of time for BBQ!

if you get the spider you can put a pan full of sand on it for indirects. ive never had a platesetter and the pan works. cgs will eventually have the stones in stock.

The Woo for the XL is awesome. You can use any quality pizza stone with it such as Kamado Joe Big Joe stones.TxTech25 said:It is 6.5 yrs old.

The spider and stone (once back in stock in late August) can also be used with the AR combo for more levels of space. I have the AR for my large with the oval stone and already have the spider for my wok, thinking I’ll add the round stone for even more versatility.

I have the AR with oval stone. My original stone might have been used twice.Aledo, Texas

I have the same setup. I will have to get the round stone before spaiching turkey’s season comes though.Toxarch said:I have the AR with oval stone. My original stone might have been used twice. -
I don’t think CGS does an oval stone for the XL but may be wrong. My assumption from a quick browse shows an 18” round stone to be used with the XL AR setup. For my large I am looking to add the round stone to use with my spider and AR because who doesn’t need more stuff to play with?

I’d buy the woo and if you’ve got a local ceramics shop, buy some kiln shelves. In my area I can get to 18 inch 1/2 kiln shelves for $20. In my xl I use a 20 inch stone that I paid $15 for.Kiln shelves are an amazing value.XL BGE, KJ classic, Joe Jr, UDS x2

I drove 30 miles to the nearest ceramic shop looking for a round stone to do pizzas and indirect cooks. I asked if they had "plate setters". They have never heard of such a thing. Asked for round kiln shelves. They had halves. I asked if they could order a round 1/2" and gave them the size to fit in a LBGE. They said $200. I said no thanks.ryantt said:I’d buy the woo and if you’ve got a local ceramics shop, buy some kiln shelves. In my area I can get to 18 inch 1/2 kiln shelves for $20. I’m sure they have changed the name “platesetter” to some other crazy name as well.Toxarch said:
