I attempted to replace the gasket on my egg today. Everything went find until the spring bands opened up. (I unsuccessfully zipped tied before I started)
I've tried to put it back together but know it doesn't line up.
Any suggestions???

I caught that. I flipped it but I still have the issue where I can't align the hole (on both sides)

Any tips for getting the springs back on?

Did you just flip the hinge right side up, or flip the bands too?#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX.

I got the springs back on. However I now have an under bite. I made sure everything was tightened and aligned before I added the springs. Once the springs went on the underbite showed up.

I would try the "zip tie" method.
https://eggheadforum.com/discussion/603293/dome-removal-and-zip-ties
And use the red spacers that were shipped to shim your dome during alignment.
Loosen things back up, make sure the rim of the bands are right at the felt line all the way around. And tighten things back up. There are procedures out there for this that are more detailed.
-
An under bite is usually a result of pushing the bands too far onto the ceramic haunch. This will start the activation of the hinge mechanism and pulls the lid backwards. Try lessening them and moving them closer together and keeping them as close to parallel as possible.
-
The zip tie method is what got me in all this trouble. I zipped tied them but they didn't hold and I had to deconstruct and reassemble everything again.
-
I can't find my shims and even though BGE sells everything under the sun they don't seem to sell that.

if you open the dome the springs come off and go on easily prying with a screw driver

Yeah, you want to check the tensile strength of your zip ties.

I think I used six of those, three on each side.
Get some decent zip ties (avoid harbor freight on these), and use enough so it won't fail. But you're going to have to loosen everything up and it's either that or those nylon locks that came with the egg that held the tension. I couldn't get them to fit though.
