Was wondering if the medium band assembly is supposed to have the springs in the rear. I just got one today and noticed it did not have them and the lid is a little heavy to close. I just updated the bands on my large and it has them and is much smoother. So I’m wondering if they either forgot to put them on at the dealer or if the medium uses a different design? The manual does list them. Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the pics cooking dude. I’ll update what mine look like in the AM but it seems they forgot to put them on. The lid def felt a little off. Especially after feeling how light/smooth the large was after updating. My large is over a decade old so I could tell the difference in design. I’ll post a pic of the large below. I’d been meaning to update it for a long time. Changed bands, gasket, thermometer and mates. Feels like a brand new egg. And the new regulator which I’m not sure about yet.

yeah, the new bands should feel fluid. Without springs, it would feel heavy. They’re easy to put on. You open the egg and drop them in. Sounds like your old medium is pretty awesome with the updates. Regulator is a fine engineering piece, but I understand how some daisy wheel diehards may prefer it over the new one. Enjoy the refreshed egg.

Here’s the large.

Here are some pictures of the new medium band. I'm not even seeing a place to attach the springs. My Large has little cut outs in the band that they attach too. The one on the medium is solid with no cut out.

Any thoughts?

Yours is not right. Agree?
Take it back to your dealer.
That’s why you buy from local dealer.
they should fix this for you.Thank you,DarianGalveston Texas -
Well they shipped from big green egg in the box. So it’s not a matter of them being right. It’s a matter of them being different. I plan to contact big green egg and the dealer Monday to figure it out.

I plan to contact big green egg and the dealer Monday to figure it out.If it was missing parts in the box, shipped from their local distributor who in turn got it from BGE, it’s still the dealers responsibility to make it right. That’s what they get paid to do. I’m sure your local dealer will take care of you.Thank you,DarianGalveston Texas

Let me explain it to you. If you look at the photos, you’ll notice in the middle picture the piece that connects the upper and lower band together. In my large egg there is two holes cut out on it that the spring attaches to. This piece on the medium is solid with no holes. So no way/place to even put a spring there. My thoughts are it’s a new design for the medium egg but will report back.

Looks strange. Interested in the outcome.

Update:
I spoke with big green egg this morning and it turns out there are two different style bands for the medium. One with springs and one without. He said the spring style bands are mainly used for the larger eggs but they got a lot of people contacting them about the smaller ones as well so they started making the spring bands for them. He offered to send out a kit with the spring bands which I took him up on as the lid is definitely much heavier to open and close with this other design. -

wow, glad the band upgrade I purchased on my new medium had springs with it. I think it functions much better with them. It is good news that they are taking care of you like that. If you want to sell your old bands, send me a PM. My older medium bands are aging as you can see in the pic.

Thanks for the tips everyone. I can see why they moved away from this design. May work for some of the mini eggs but the spring assist really does make a big difference. Cooking dude- drop me a line in a few weeks. Dealer has to put this in with his next order. Not sure when that’ll be. I’m not sure if they’ll want these back or not. I’d guess no. BGE contact didn’t mention it.
