Kitchin aid mixer failure fixed
Ive seen this happen on more than one kitchen aid mixer. Just sharing. Intermittent stop working. Typically you would change the speed controller as it makes sense. Before buying one. Get an ohm meter and check the plug itself. Lost connection between wire inside mixer and the plug. Pulling the cord out of the socket pulls the wire off at the plug terminal itself. Cut off plug and replace. Ive fixed two different mixers this happened on. No connection between white wire and plug. Hope it helps

Thanks for the tip. That's interesting. I have an older spare Hobart mixer that seems to be completely dead. At one point when I plugged it in it turned over for a few seconds than stopped. I thought it was maybe the brushes. I replaced those but I had no luck.
I wonder if it could be the plug.....

Unfortunately it's not the plug. This one might just stay as the parts mixer. She's completely dead."The pig is an amazing animal. You feed a pig an apple and it makes bacon. Let's see Michael Phelps do that" - Jim Gaffigan

So when you open it up theres a white and black power wires as nornal coming from the main outlet wire. And theres 2 motor wires. Plug motor wire 1 into power white and motor wire 2 into power black with a jumper or vs versa. Plug it in just to see if the motor spins. If not check cord. If so. Speed controler.Columbus, Ohio

Basically power the motor with electricity to see if it works. If motor spins with direct power its then a sensor, switch or powerColumbus, Ohio

I cut and soldered on a new cord to the main motor wires. Unfortunately I'm still not getting any response from the motor.

Does the motor free spin when you turn it by handColumbus, Ohio

I picked this mixer up for free off Craigslist. I was told it doesn't turn on. I went home and plugged it in. When plugging it in it turned on for a few seconds and than I shut it off. I tried turning it on again and got nothing. I've tried turning it on a few more times over the years with no such luck.jdMyers said:Does the motor free spin when you turn it by hand
I intially thought brushes as well. Unfortunately it wasn't the brushes. I've switched them out and still no response. This morning was the first time I've had it apart. Everything was connected and nothing was loose.
I've never had any issues when cleaning up and servicing these older Hobart Kitchenaid. This thing just doesn't want to participate. I'm far from knowing what I'm doing when it comes to anything electrical but nothing visually seems out of place on this one."The pig is an amazing animal. You feed a pig an apple and it makes bacon. Yeah. First Hobart Kitchenaid mixer that I've come across where it doesn't fire up. I'm sure it's some stupid easy electrical fix. Except I don't know the first thing about electronics.alaskanassasin said:I’m sure you wiggled the plug

I do have a multimeter. It doesn't see all that much use as it's pretty foreign to me on how to use it properly. I do have one though.jdMyers said:Do you have or know how to use an olm meter?.

Checking continuity would be a simple first step before cutting/rewiring a cord.

Absolutly. So do a quick google on using a multimeter to check ohms. You will be able to quicly test the plug and cord without cutting.Columbus, Ohio

Cord is good. I replaced the cord yesterday. That was quick and easy reinsurance it wasn't the cord. I would have thought twice about cutting and soldering in a new cord if this was my main mixer. No harm in it being a non-working mixer.jdMyers said:Absolutly. So do a quick google on using a multimeter to check ohms. You will be able to quicly test the plug and cord without cutting.

Dang wish i would caught you before solder. However I see wire nuts. Did you try to connect the motor wires directly to the electric wires to see if the motor worksColumbus, Ohio

If Your Mixer Has No PowerIf the bowl isn't in the right position or if the protective wire cage isn't placed correctly, your mixer won't start. If everything is plugged in and properly situated, you may have overheated the motor. Try letting it sit for 15 or 20 minutes and try againColumbus, Ohio

This sounds like it's for a commercial mixer.jdMyers said:If Your Mixer Has No PowerIf the bowl isn't in the right position or if the protective wire cage isn't placed correctly, your mixer won't start.
