    I've heard of it.

    I've seen it.

    I've lived through it.

    I've rebuilt after it.

The lead singer of Boston tried to grill burgers in his bathtub once. Heard that didn't go over too well.

Almost caught the house on fire with a small Weber gasser on a screened in porch. +/- 5 years ago.

Loaded it up with burgers, windy as hell, dirty grill basin = literally a conflagration. Scared as I’ve ever been, ever. Took off so fast it’s hard to explain. Whole time I’m thinking I’m gonna be known as the dude who burned his house down.

Fire extinguisher was ancient and not charged, so I  ran and grabbed flour instead but could not beat it back - ended up dragging /throwing the grill thru the door and into the yard collecting some nice arm burns on the way.

I’m a bit more safety aware now - and every device that has flame has a new fire extinguisher mounted to it.

had an elderly neighbor do the same. when his daughter grabbed him by the elbow the skin slid off all the way to his finger tips. nothing worse than a grease fire. his wife was bed ridden when the house went up but fortunately they got her out in time

I saw a report that indicated there are about 3800 structure fires per year in the US caused by grills. Included gassers and charcoal. About 75% from gas and 25% from solid fuel.

In cooking, often we implement steps for which we have no explanations other than ‘that’s what everybody else does’ or ‘that’s what I have been told.’  Dare to think for yourself.

And yet charcoal grills are the ones often banned at apartments.

    Grills in general...gas and charcoal
    house fires caused by grills

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Nice to see you posting, but I know why you are not working being in your line of biz! I hope you make it tru this economic downturn as I know it may impact you longer than many others. Rex H finally got their home sold after I believe 6 years. He told me he lost a major percentage, but just had to cut his losses!

Best of the best to you, cyber Pal!

Thanks Everyone, I have close a friend who has a XL who's neighbor just got a BGE and is using it in his garage and told my friend that there is nothing to worry about, that he has been cooking on his gasser for years in the garage.

Once again Thank You all, RRP this virus has pretty much put me out of business, I had 41 shows cancel between March and June and I do not see it letting up.

Tell your friend's neighbor to read up on charcoal and carbon monoxide.

  • Sounds like you don’t keep the brightest of company. 😉

Putting aside the fire risk, carbon monoxide is the other big reason you don’t want to grill indoors, or in any non-ventilated settings.

Grilling and smoking pose some risk in even the best of circumstances. Never mind the fact that many do it while enjoying adult supervisory beverages.
