Any Overlanders/Camp Chefs Out Here?
I picked up an 02 wrangler and am in the process of working up some modifications to make it a little more camp friendly. Debating on building a trailer to house fresh water and camp kitchen/cooler since space is limited in a TJ. I've got my eye on a ford ranger bed with a commercial style topper that has been converted into a trailer.
I know many of you are the DIY type as well, if you've ventured down a similar rabbit hole, I'd love to see your setups. Thanks! Something like what is in the picture is what I intend on building, less a roof top tent...for now anyway.

That’s way cool.Coleman, Texas
Large BGE & Mini Max for the wok. A few old camp Dutch ovens and a wood fired oven. LSG 24” cabinet offset smoker. There are a few paella pans and a Patagonia cross in the barn. A curing chamber for bacterial transformation of meats...
"Bourbon slushies. Sure you can cook on the BGE without them, but why would you?"

I’d be interested in seeing pics of and hearing about the mods you make to your TJ.

One for sure is going to be some sort of fold down shelf attached to the inside of the tail gate, or I may build a swing out tire carrier with the same shelf for food prep.
My problem with every factory swing-out spare tire carrier is that they hinge on the same side as the tail gate (passenger). If I build a tire carrier that hinges on the driver side it allows me to build a fold down shelf on the tailgate and on the carrier and use them simultaneously. I'll post mods I make on this thread as I get to them. Thanks for your interest! -
Roughed up some plans for my first mod to the Jeep. Rear bumper and a swing away tire carrier that hinges on the driver side, rather than passenger like all the bolt on options there are out there. Going to get a friend to give me a quote. Hoping to have this fabricated and installed by summer. This will have a rack that sits above the spare tire for loading down with gear. I think I will add a folding shelf on the inside so you can utilize that for cooking when the gate is open.
