Resale on them is crazy. You’re better off buying a new one than a 3 yr old Wrangler. Thinking about how else you plan to use this vehicle may help guide your decision. These vehicles are not at their best as daily drivers and they shouldn’t be purchased for gas mileage or ride quality, for sure. They are however, IMHO, a blast to drive. If you like to wrench, you can do anything to make it your own since there are aftermarket parts galore. As far as I know, this is the ONLY mass produced 4 wheel drive vehicle that has a removable top (and doors). If those things are appealing, go for it.Charlotte, NC

I'd drive an FJ before the wranglers. Grand cherokees are nice too and tow well with the v8. I'd take. Ford ranger or rapter before the wranglers too.(see a trend here). My cj5 would be my daily driver before a current wrangler....

I didn't hear it anywhere... I lived it. 2004 Wrangler, fully loaded top to bottom, when I traded for a pickup in 2005. Real world value, not magazine articles, is where I got my info.

I've got a 90 mile commute each day. I keep a F150 Lariat in the garage for weekends and drive a Civic back 'n forth to work @36MPG. The next daily driver will likely be a Tesla or equivalent.South of Nashville - BGE XL - Alfresco 42" ALXE - Alfresco Versa Burner - Sunbeam Microwave

@gamason yup I think you got hosed. Maybe the trade value isn't as strong as 3rd party resale, from your experience.
I got into wranglers a few years ago. Picked up a 1992 YJ from Colorado. Put a little work into it, nothing more than replacing some worn out suspension parts and cleaning things up. Turned around and sold it for an 81% profit. Found a good deal on a 2002 TJ that I picked up for $3000 under book-value. -

I don't know. I thought the same until I just bought in late '19, 2-3 year old used was maybe 15% cheaper than new. I went new and at least got a warranty. I plan on keeping it for 10 years hopefully too. I guess it really depends on what vehicle your looking at. Most 2-3 year used here are lease returns and fully loaded too, so the re-sale is inflated -
I feel like I got a pretty good deal on my Jeep when I sold it. Jeeps hold their resale value remarkably well from what I've always understood.

they seem pricey here for used. 40k for a 2012, my 2010 over the top rover was only 23k at the same dealer. if you want to see low values, look up second hand range rovers

Real world value, not magazine articles, is where I got my info.Maybe you got ripped off. Even though that information was "in a magazine", the data came from an analytics firm that: "iSeeCars.com analyzed more than 7.7 million new and used car sales to identify the models that depreciate the least and most after five years."So I dunno if I should believe reality is one data point from a guy on a food forum or 7.7 million data points from some organization that does that.Plus I heard multiple times from friends buying used Wranglers that they hold their value.

will keep mine til they no longer sell me a warranty for it while knocking on the black lacquered piano wood inserts if you are serious about off roading in a jeep, you buy it and take it to the nearest place that upgrades the basic parts like wheel bearings, axles, differentials etc or you buy a lift. i cant tell you how many jeeps i pulled out of the sandpits, woods etc and i was in an old lifted dodge dart 2 wheel drivefukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it -

I test drove the last model and the current model. Night and day. I thought the old one sucked as a DD. Mushy brakes, vague steering, tracked like a canoe in a crosswind. New model seemed waaay better, though I didn’t take it on the highway.I passed on it but it would make a heck of a fun car!Chicago, IL - Large and Small BGE - Weber Gasser and Kettle

I drive a JKUR and the wife drives a 4Runner. 4Runner is more civilized, but the wife still takes the Jeep occasionally.

Had this for 4 years. Commute was 30 miles RT. Great in the summer, fun in the snow, and fun to drive. ( I had a manual transmission). Cargo space and creature comforts led me to trading it in on a 4 door Tacoma. -
Hard vs soft top makes a big difference in noise and comfort and inverse to fun. My wife is entertaining the idea of one but, for us would have to be an extra toy.Greensboro, NC
