Ceramic Restoration?

Hello -
I noticed over the last few months that my eggs ceramic has started to spiderweb and crack on the surface. It appears to be some sort of issue with the glaze/sealant on the ceramic. Is there anything that will help restore and protect the ceramic?

This is crazing which is normal and occurs on ALL ceramics. Non issue. Carry on.

why do they always have the smokeware cap when they come on here about finish checking?

Yup, obviously not impacting performance or cooking, just looks trashy and dingy so I’d like to resolve if possible. Which is why I came here

Unfortunately there isn’t much you can do. As others have pointed out it’s a factor of ceramic kamados. My Kamado Joe looks worse as it has the crazing, and has seriously dulled/faded over time. I have used this to shine my BGEs back up:

This is my 10ish year old medium after treatmentIt doesn’t fix anything per se, but just kind of makes it look new again for a few weeks. Something to do while waiting on a cook while outside. -

mineral oil will shine it, but it will also be a magnet for any dust/pollen. just use some car paint wax.XL BGE and Kamado Joe Jr.

Mine looks like that, when I replace the gasket every other year, I clean the blackish stain with acetone. The crazing (small cracks in the ceramic) is normal in all ceramic. I’ll get you a picture of some ceramic cookware I have when I get back home, it is just like the egg.____________________Entrepreneurs are simply those who understand that there is little difference between obstacle and opportunity and are able to turn both to their advantage. •Niccolo Machiavelli
