Lid adjustment

Hey there... i have researched on here how to readjust and tighten the bands and hinge on a large egg... after several attempts the lid returns to the same underbite that it had before.. i have loosened the hinge bolts and band bolts(bottom and lid), slide the lid to be where it needed to be and retightened. Everything looked good till i opened and closed the lid several times... lid went right back to where it was when i started adjustment. This egg is about 10 years old. Are there new bands to try? It is taking a toll on the gasket i guess because the lid doesn't come down evenly?? Not sure from some of you on here if i even need a gasket... i do more low and slows than regular grilling so... any help or advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I bought the new bands last year and it fixed my issues with the bands. I have not had to adjust them since I put the new ones on. I think it cost me somewhere around $130 for the new ones.Las Vegas, NV

@Battleborn... where did you get them? Mothership or an authorized dealer?

I got mine from a dealer. Some will have to order, but my dealer happened to have them in stock.

on the back of the egg. the main bands come together with a bolt. most folks tighten that bolt so much it bends the bolt itself and puts tension on it. I heavy duty spring in between two washers allow you to tighten the main band nut and bolt without bending the bolt itself. The washers you can stick in a vise and just grind out a space

I just went through the same thing, cost me 130 bucks for the new band and hinge system but solved my problem and its WAY easier to open and so far its stayed aligned perfectly, worth every penny.1 large in challenger cart and 1 mini-max , too many dang accessories

I have the new band assembly (since Sep 2019) and find the smaller total lid opening range to be a bit of a challenge if cooking on a very elevated setup. I am still adjusting to the "hitch" motion I experience with the dome , especially when closing. Anyone else or did I hose up the install??Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. I had the same problem and ended up purchasing a new set of bands last summer. Problem solved in 10 minutes after years of frustration... I should have done that years ago.____________________Entrepreneurs are simply those who understand that there is little difference between obstacle and opportunity and are able to turn both to their advantage. •Niccolo Machiavelli

I know the "hitch" you are taking about. Haven't really thought of it much though.lousubcap said:I have the new band assembly (since Sep 2019) and find the smaller total lid opening range to be a bit of a challenge if cooking on a very elevated setup.
