Egg genius

Hey all, had anyone notice a large difference between the egg genius thermometer and the thermometer on the egg itself?  I have noticed that the genius temp it quite a bit higher than the egg thermometer temp.

Put the dome thermo in some ice water. If it’s close to 32 it’s good, if not, you can calibrate it using the nut on the back. Also, make note of location. If you are not clipping the genius thermo to the stem of some thermo they can be off quite a bit. I monitor the grid temp as that’s where I cook. I don’t care so much what the dome temp runs when using a controller.

First:  Clip your pit probe to the dome temp gauge and see if they line up.  If not, you need to adjust your dome gauge by boiling some water and turning the hex nut.  Then......

Grate vs [a calibrated] dome temp will still always be different.  Depending how the plate setter is situated and the placement of the pit probe, that will also throw both off if there's infrared heat hitting either, if there's a drip or water pan, etc.

In any case, either of those is only measure a one cubic inch ball of air underneath that dome......it's never going to be equal no matter how hard to try.
