"BAD NEWS:  The 3-bag option with Free Shipping will  sunset 12/27 @ noon.  UPS & FedEx just informed us that any box over 50# will have a 58% increased cost. "
Self Christmas present works for me...

Sad news, but will have to go with it. There no source for Rockwood close enough to offset truck fuel cost.

The a-holes gave us 10 days notice.  That was on top of a 5% across the board they announced last month.

I had 1500 empty boxes on order.  I called the box company in a panic......they pulled it off the line.  They were starting the order that afternoon.  That was close.

No collusion when both come up with the same increase and announce at the same time...  They know when they have you by the 'nads!

It's done as of a week from now......no more 3-bag boxes.

I am fortunate that I can purchase locally from a couple Ace Hardwares.  Perhaps a new 4-bag special sent in two shipments would be an option for those not so lucky?

The shipping on the bags is a lot like the pallets.  They screw you on one, then two is only like 40% more, then the third is only another 20% more. 

Totally spitballing numbers here, but imagine if its $20 to ship one bag in a $2 box, then its $26 to ship two in a $2.75 box, then its $30 to ship in a $3.25 box.  You can see how the per bag cost on shipping drops from $22 a bag to $14 a bag, to $11 a bag.  That's how we used to be able to absorb the shipping on sending 3 bags.

FedEx and UPS treat two boxes just like two separate shipments, so we dont save any money if you buy 1 box vs 2.  That's BS because "the last mile" is saving them money in this case.

So unless we increase the cost on the 1 or 2 bag option, no more "free shipping".  Shipping is never "free", it's just PREPAID in some cases.  Right now the shipping on those two options is contingent on your zip.  Customers on the coast lines pay more than those in the central US.  It's a nightmare to program the shipping models into shopify.

We will work on it over the next week and debut the pricing a week for tomorrow.  As always, try to BUY LOCAL.  Use our direct option as the last resort.  It's going to be in better shape, lower price, and supporting one of our local dealers. I hate selling direct, but there are some folks that don't have any other options.

We have about 100 of the 3 bag boxes left, so please order so we can get rid of them!!!  Any boxes left after next saturday will go home with me and my four kids will make one hell of a box fort!

Jonathan is spot on on shipping pallets (to your commercial address or dock). I used to buy Lumberjack pellets direct from Seth, at $450 per pallet (2000#).  Shipping was $200 for 1 pallet, but only $300 total for 4 pallets to Kansas. So I bought 4 at a time, and ordered twice a year.

Any Ace Hardware or True Value can order it for you if it's not on the shelf.  Each store is independently owned and operated, so pricing can vary quite a bit between stores.

I just ordered a box.  That stuff is hard to come by around my neck of the woods.  I called every Ace within 50 miles and only one had it.  He had one bag left but I can order it as cheap per bag straight from the warehouse.
