Turkey temp dome or grate?

Options
I see a lot of suggestions for approx 325F for turkey. Do you measure at the dome thermometer or at the grate?
TIA!

Unless otherwise noted most temps you see here will be dome temps.

But how far from the cold meat?  How far from the sides?  How far from the indirect plate openings?  How to you account for the meat temp rising? Front or back or side?
