Fire pit in a pinch
Nature Boy
Posts: 8,687
Our turkey class was last weekend and it was pretty chilly and our cheap fire pit had fallen apart. I racked my brain looking for something I could use to build a fire in, then it dawned on me. Worked like a charm, and she sure was clean afterwards! Good timing because I am about to install a new band anyway
Cheers

LOL. Yeah, my personal collection started in 1998 when I got my first EGG. Since then, between personal, competing, teaching, and being a dealer, we have amassed just enough to get by!Cookbook_Chip said:Always nice to have a spare 3 dozen eggs!

Worked great. I left the firebox in (for airflow) but removed the fire ring (to allow for more wood).smokingal said:Sweet! I'm thinking about using my Large base for something similar, once I get around to switching out the replacement. -

I read somewhere that the fire ring allows for additional protection of the base from the fire's heat. Any worries about base cracking?Nature Boy said:

You can read a lot of stuff out there. My oldest EGG is from 1998, and it's seen a whole bunch of fire and food. 130 competitions and traveling included. And competitions were only part of the picture of what that EGG has seen. I have never had a cracked base, and having a big wood fire in it did not even concern me slightly. Burn on! Cheers.

The "Genius" word is a strong word LOL! Ed Fisher was the genius BTW. He made a cooker I can trust. I got to shake his hand once again this year at Eggtoberfest. Amazing guy, and he backs it up when it comes to his product.thetrim said:You can never underestimate the true value of being a freaking genius!
