Firebox cracked!

I just cleaned out my lg egg and saw that there is a crack in the back of the firebox. Are these guaranteed? Any ideas on what to do? Thanks.

    1. THE BIG GREEN EGG: Each Big Green Egg® ceramic cooker (XXLarge, XLarge, Large, Medium, Small, MiniMax and Mini) carries a Limited Lifetime Warranty for materials and workmanship on all ceramic components (including dome, base, damper top, fire box and fire ring) to the original purchaser or owner who has purchased the product from an Authorized Dealer and has registered their Warranty as required (the “Warranty”). This Warranty is valid for as long as the original purchaser owns the EGG® or covered component, except for other ceramic, metal and wood components which are covered as explained below.

In cooking, often we implement steps for which we have no explanations other than ‘that’s what everybody else does’ or ‘that’s what I have been told.’  Dare to think for yourself.

I ran with V1.0 firmware for many years, then my Firebox auto-upgraded to V1.1, ran on that for a while, then went and talked to my dealer.  They gave me a new Firebox running V2.0 code.
The only difference seems to be 2.0 is more streamlined, so possibly more efficient.

  • Gave up the ghost and finally put a new one in last night. Depending on your dealer it may take awhile to get a replacement. It took months for me while others walk out with new items same day. No biggie. The old one cooked fine until another “break” finally pushed me to swap them out.

Your egg is ruined.... private message me and I will arrange to have it removed from your property free of charge.
Like others have said it's covered under warranty if original owner, contact dealer you purchased from for replacement.
    Keep on Egging though.

If there is one thing that I have learned after cooking on my egg for over a decade, it is that ceramics will crack.  It's inevitable.

I have a cracked one in my egg and a new one (that I got free because of the cracked one) sitting in storage. Same for hinges(rusted)  and lower fire grate .  😂.  I will probably go ahead and change hinges Since they are updated version .

My dealer is making me bring my cracked fire ring in to get my replacement. I haven't taken it apart since I saw the crack, but guess I better do it before it gets away or they send it back.

My fire box has had a crack like the one on the left for quite a while...still works fine, so I haven't bothered trying to get it replaced yet.  Is the "gap" in the new style one to allow for expansion/contraction with less chance of cracking?

I bought some furnace cement. That was five years ago and my cracked fire box is still looking like Humpty Dumpty BEFORE he had his big fall.
